Good Friday Holiday: Will NSE, BSE, Banks Remain Open?

Good Friday will be observed April 18, 2025 as the day has huge significance for Christians globally. The day marks crucifixion of Jesus Christ and it occurs just before Easter (Sunday) that will be celebrating the resurrection from the dead. Good Friday is a gazatted holiday in many states of India. Several government offices, schools, public institutions, banks will remain closed on April 18. Meanwhile, Indian stock markets will also remain closed on April 18, 2025. The bourses, Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will stay closed on Friday on the occasion of Good Friday, observed as a national holiday in many parts of the country.

Apart from the equity markets, Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) too will remain shut on April 18, 2025. It will include both morning (9 am to 5 pm) and evening session (5 pm to 11:30 pm), as per the official website of MCX. Therefore, no trading activities will occur in gold, silver, crude oil, and agriculture future on Good Friday.

Meanwhile, the other holidays for stock market will include Maharashtra Day on May 1), August 15 for Independence Day, Ganesh Chaturthi on August 27, Oct 2 for Gandhi Jayanti, October 21 for Diwali, October 22 for Diwali Balipratipada, November 5 for Gurupurab, and December 25 for Christmas.

It is worth mentioning here that the Currency Derivatives Segments and NDS-RST and Tri-Party Repo will stay shut on April 18, 2025.

Apart from India, The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will also remain closed on Friday. DOW will also remain shut. It is worth noting that US stock markets do not remain closed for large number of religious holidays.

Banks following federal schedule will remain open on April 18, 2025 as Good Friday is not considered a Federal Holiday. Meanwhile, a few banks may decide to operate for revised hours that will depend on a particular region or customer demand. However, it is appropriate to verify with the local branch for the same in order to avoid any inconvenience.
