How To Update PAN Card Online? Check Details

Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a crucial document for identification verification and income tax purposes in India. It plays a significant role in filing income tax returns, opening bank accounts, and conducting various financial transactions, making it essential to ensure that the information on the PAN card is accurate and up-to-date.

Mistakes on your PAN card can lead to complications in the future, so it is advisable to correct any inaccuracies promptly. Common updates may include changes to your name, parent’s name, date of birth, email address, phone number, or Aadhaar number. Fortunately, these modifications can be made online with minimal fees from the comfort of your home.

How To Update PAN Card Online? Check Details

Update PAN Card Online via NSDL or Protean portal

Follow the below steps using the NSDL e-Gov (Protean) portal to update your PAN card online in India:

  • Visit the NSDL Portal: Go to the official NSDL website at https://www.protean-tinpan.com.
  • Select Services: Click on the ‘Services’ tab and then select the “PAN” option.
  • Start Application: Scroll down to find “Change/Correction in PAN Data” and click on the “Apply” tab. Choose the ‘Apply Online’ option.
  • Choose Application Type: From the dropdown menu under ‘Application Type’, select ‘Changes or Corrections in Existing PAN data/Reprint of PAN Card (No changes in Existing PAN Data)’.
  • Fill Out Personal Information: Enter your Title, Last Name/Surname, First Name, Middle Name, date of birth (in DD/MM/YYYY format), Email ID, and Mobile Number.
  • Confirm your citizenship status.
  • Consent and Captcha: Mark your consent and fill in the Captcha code to verify you are not a robot, then click “Submit”.
  • Receive Token Number: After submission, a token number will be sent to your registered email for tracking purposes.
  • Continue Application: Click on ‘Continue with PAN Application Form’ to proceed.
  • Select Submission Method: Choose “Submit digitally through KYC & e-Sign (Paperless)” or “Submit scanned images through e-Sign”.
  • Aadhaar Number Entry: If applicable, enter your Aadhaar number and fill in any required details for correction.
  • Provide Updated Address: Enter your updated contact address as needed.
  • Sign Declaration: Sign the declaration on the next page and click ‘Submit’.
  • Upload Documents: Attach a copy of your photograph and signature as required.
  • Make Payment: After submitting the form, you will be directed to a payment page where you can pay via Net Banking, Credit Card, or Debit Card. Complete the payment by entering the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Acknowledgment Slip: Upon successful payment, an acknowledgment slip will be generated for your records.

Important Notes:

  • The fee for updating or correcting your PAN card is typically Rs 50 (inclusive of all taxes) for addresses within India and Rs Rs959 (inclusive of all taxes) for international addresses.
  • While applying for the correction, make sure that all details filled are accurate. This will ensure a smooth update process and avoid delays in processing.
  • You can track your application status using the acknowledgment number provided after submission.
