SBI Dividend In May: Shares Rise 9.9% In 2-Weeks, Buy Or Hold?

Public sector lender SBI share price today gained marginally by 0.25% today on Bombay Stock Exchange ( BSE) to Rs 815.30 per share as Sensex tumbled 246.21 points to 79,870. The PSU informed today about its upcoming meeting of Central Board scheduled to be held on May 3, 2025 to consider financial results and proposal of declaration of dividend for the FY 2024-25. State Bank of India share price gained 9.90% in last 1-week when Sensex surged 8.17%, BSE BANKEX index surged 9.88%, and BSE Financial Services index soared 9.98%. The PSU has a market capitalisation of Rs 7,26,821.06 crore. The return on equity (ROE) of the bank stock stood at 17.39%. It is worth noting that Life Insurance Corporation Of India (LIC) has 9.38% stake in the PSU with 829,292,748 share of the bank. LIC stake in SBI jumped from December 2024 quarter (9.13%) to 9.38% for March 2025 quarter.

State Bank of India To Consider Financial Result, Dividend In May

According to the exchange filing of the PSU dated April 24, 2025, “We advise that a meeting of the Central Board of the Bank will be held on Saturday, 3 rd May 2025 at Mumbai, inter-alia, to consider the financial results of the Bank for the quarter and year ended 31.03.2025. Intimation under Regulation 29(1)(e) of the SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015 is given, that in the above stated meeting, the Central Board of the Bank may also consider declaration of dividend, if any, for the FY 2024-25.” The bank has yet to fix record date for dividend.

SBI Dividend History

The PSU lender recommended a total of 21 dividends since 2003. In last 1-year, it announced a dividend of Rs 13.70 per share. It maintains a dividend yield of 1.68%.

SBI Stock Split History

The bank split the face value of its shares once since 2014. It last sub-divided face value of the stock from Rs 10 to Re 1 in 2014 and traded ex-split on November 20, 2014.

SBI Bonus Share History

It never recommended any bonus share.

State Bank of India Shares Performance

The 52-week high of State Bank of India share price stood at Rs 912.10 per share (as on 03/06/2024) and 52-week low price is Rs 679.65 per share (as on 03/03/2025), respectively. State Bank of India shares gained 9.56% in last 3-months, soared 5.47% in last 1-year, and jumped 47.06% in last 2-years. In last 3-years, SBI shares gave return of 629% and rose 353.81% in last 5-years.

Should You Buy SBI Shares?

Leading brokerage firm JM Financial is upbeat on SBI stock and claimed that it is likely to outperform Nifty Bank. The analyst said, “”With renewed momentum and rising trading volumes alongside the upward price movement suggest the next upswing is gaining strength. Therefore, one can accumulate a stock in range of 790-795 for the expected upside of Rs 875-880 levels with stop loss below Rs 745 levels.”

State Bank of India Financials Compared With Peers

The PSU for the December 2024 quarter declared the profit after tax (PAT) at Rs 16,891.44 crore. In comparison, PNB declared PAT of Rs 4,508.21 crore, Bank of Baroda announced a PAT of 4,837.34 crore, and Canara Bank declared a PAT of 4,104.20 crore.
