As the new month set to kick off from Tuesday, it is essential to be aware of bank holidays so that you can plan your financials operations accordingly. Banks in India remains shut on different days as a result of regional, local festivals, and public holidays. As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directive, bank holidays differ from state-to-state. Some festivals are celebrated all across India while a few holidays are observed only in a few states.
Bank customers must be aware of the various holidays that will take place in April so that they can schedule their visits to the respective branch accordingly. It is worth noting that April will start with a holiday for a large number of banks in India as RBI has mandated closure for April 1. Therefore, banks all over India will remain shut on April 1 for closing of accounts.
RBI calendar is issued at the beginning of every year and specifies clearly bank holidays for every city as per the local traditions and key events. Apart from government holidays, banks also remain closed on Sundays, second Saturday and fourth Saturday of the month. Check the dates below when banks will remain closed in your respective state and city:
April 1, 2025 (Tuesday): Banks will remain shut all over India for “annual account closing” process.
April 5, 2025 (Saturday): Banks will remain closed on April 5 in Hyderabad to mark the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Babu Jagjivan Ram.
April 6, 2025 (Sunday): Banks to remain closed across the country on April 6.
April 10, 2025 (Thursday): Banks of most of the states will observe a holiday to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir on April 10, 2025 except a few regions. The states where bank will not open on April 10, 2025 include Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana.
April 12, 2025 (Saturday): Banks all over India will remain shut as it is second Saturday of the month.
April 13, 2025 (Sunday): Banks will be shut all over the country.
April 14, 2025 (Monday): Few states’ banks will remain closed on April 14 to celebrate Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Tamil New Year, Vishu, Bihu, and other local festivals. The states and cities where bank will remain closed are Ahmedabad, Agartala, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Guwahati, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Telangana, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram.
April 15, 2025 (Tuesday): Banks will remain shut in few states to celebrate Himachal Day, Bengali New Year’s Day, and Bohag Bihu. These states where banks are not open on April 15 include Agartala, Itanagar, Guwahati, Kolkata, and Shimla.
April 16, 2025 (Wednesday): The banks that will not open on April 16, 2025 are Aizawl, Guwahati, Itanagar, and Kolkata as these places will celebrate Bohag Bihu.
April 18, 2025 (Friday): The banks that are going to remain shut on April 18 consist of Ahmedabad, Agartala, Bengaluru, Belapur, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Gangtok, Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Hyderabad (Telangana), Imphal, Kanpur, Kohima, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Panaji, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, and Thiruvananthapuram. These places will celebrate Good Friday.
April 20, 2025 (Sunday): Nationwide holiday.
April 21, 2025 (Monday): States like Agartala and Trupura celebrate Garia Puja,
April 26, 2025 (Saturday): Banks remain closed nationwide due to fourth Saturday.
April 17, 2025 (Sunday): Nationwide holiday.
April 29, 2025 (Tuesday): Banks in Shimla will remain shut to celebrate Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Jayanti.
April 30, 2025 (Wednesday): Banks in Bengaluru will remain closed to mark Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya.
